new stuff + countdown to Comic Con
|
By Lusvell - 09-01-2008 02:19:44 EDT
<---So just because my "good friend" there, whom I have a pretty good idea who it is now, likes to believe he's accomplishing something by blowing himself off on my tagboard dont mean I'm gonna stop posting Anyway, two new things, a self-portrait, mainly just to practice some line stuff, since I thought the Saint Seiya lineart from my last post was pretty nice, so... And uhh, this...thing. I was practicing with expressions, new brushes and Corel Painter. Corel just isnt for me I guess. I had to go back to PS to fix the colors and textures. Otherwise though, it's faithful to the reference picture, just not exactly a great picture I guess. In random news, Baltimore Comic-con starts in 4 weeks (27th and 28th of Sept.) Already got my tickets, been working on new stuff, hopefully network with people, etc. So far I got a list of things and people I wanna meet, but hell, even if half of those things dont happen, I just wanna have fun.

Saint Seiya-related mega post.
|
By Lusvell - 08-25-2008 02:28:51 EDT
So...I'm not big on anime-drawing, at least, not anymore, so it took me a while to actually draw this. That, and mainly, because I havent been drawing in months. I guess I was just out of practice, hopefully the next thing I do will be better ( I actually got the next piece planned already, oh shi--!@ ) Anyway, so the final chapter of Saint Seiya was finally adapted into the animated series. It had a descent start, but as it progressed, there were changes in production, and it completely killed every latin american and european fan's dream. It just....sucked. Anyway, so I did a few things here and there of the series, one of the few anime shows Im actually a fan of. Here's Seiya, the main character, already defeating Thanatos, the God of Death. Only inks, I hope I can go back and color it some time. Here's another one, the inks for 'Legends Live Forever', I actually love the inks a lot more than the actual colored version, but thats just me I guess. And the final version. The main character dies at the end of the series in a final battle against Hades. I hope I did some justice to it, over at what they did on the series There's still a few things I'd like to go back and fix, actually...a lot of things. But it was commissioned by a SS forum, and I was already late on it, so I did what I could.

My thoughts on the Incredible Hulk movie
|
By Lusvell - 06-15-2008 14:53:09 EDT
So I had a chance to go out and watch the new Incredible Hulk movie, with Edward Norton and Liv Tyler. I'm a huge Norton fan, so really I'll just watch anything with his name on it. In any case, if you had doubts about watching this because of that last failure-fest that was the 2003 Hulk movie...dont. This movie truly does justice to the whole Hulk legacy. It ain't better than Iron Man, but it's a good movie nonetheless. The final fight is actually a lot better than Iron Man's !! There are a few things that bothered me though. There were a ton of scenes that were cut, either for time constrains or maybe they didnt look good. But some cuts were really not necesary. For one, the over-hyped scene of Captain America. There was a glimpse of it in the trailer, so we know it was filmed. The whole thing goes like this: Bruce is in the middle of nowhere near the North Atlantic Ocean (I think?)set on killing himself. Apparently the ice breaks and he falls down to where the icebergs are. Turns into Hulk and breaks the icebergs, possibly revealing Cap's body. Whoever cut this out is a huge douchebag. The second thing that bothered me was cutting out most of Betty's boyfriend scenes. If you didnt know (mainly because they didnt even mention his name) Thats Dr. Leonard Sampson. Apparently he had many many more scenes, and a closure to his and Betty's relationship at the end of the movie. Shame he was reduced to two scenes. And the third one, even though it wasn't much of a bother, it would've been cool for the fans that actually follow the comics. In the scene where Banner is delivering pizzas and goes into the lab, he bribes the student that was there so he could use the computer. The student is none other than Amadeus Cho, the super intelligent Asian kid who's currently traveling along with Hercules, and had a big part in World War Hulk. Again though, that last one was just out of pure love for the comic nerdness xD The way the rumor goes, is that there is over 70 minutes of deleted footage, so we'll see in a few months if the rumors are true (if an extended dvd version comes out, which I'm hoping it does)

Thoughts on Final Crisis/Secret Invasion + Sketch dump
|
By Lusvell - 03-20-2008 01:21:39 EDT
Fist matter of business. A few weeks ago I posted a bunch of new sketches for the hell of it. You can view them here. There are a lot more coming, specially since I'm working (for free ) on an independent film project that could lead to a graphic novel gig somewhere. Pretty minty. Anyway, I'll try to update as much as I can, since I've been MIA for a while. Second in the list: The clash of events this summer: Final Crisis, written by Grant Morrison. Expect the unexpected, even if that means that the single most critical moment in the DCU turns out to be just a thought from the creator of the Gods (Being who created the old Gods and the 4th World Gods, Darkseid, High Father, etc. see 'Death of the New Gods' to understand what the hell I'm talking about) And then there's Secret Invasion. An event years in the making (allegedly) Skrulls invading the Marvel's top rank. What? Skrulls in my Marvel? More likely than you think. So far the biggest hints have been thrown around in selected franchises and I really do hope it stays that way. I havent been this excited about knowing whether Captain Marvel is a skrull or not. And I've never cared about Cap. Marvel whatsoever. So which one will rock out more? Mind you, this is like the pre-drinking game, because we dont know jack about either one, and they both have their strong and weak points. I think Crisis has the ability to make something epic, if it was being hindered by Countdown, which went from boring, to "O-K", to ridiculous (Jimmy Olsen with God powers? Really? I mean--Really??) And then there's Invasion. Personally I was never a big fan of the Initiative. True, some good comics came out of that (Thunderbolts) while others went down the toilet for me (ret-con of Spiderman. Thanks a lot, douchebags). So I'm hoping in a way that this fixes or at least tries to make something out of the mess that Civil War left. Though, honestly, I'm looking forward to the guessing and shocking game. "Ohmygod HE is a skrull?! Yea, that's whats probably going to happen. So for now, I'd say get both. Once they are both out, which will be in a month or two, we can start judging them. Till next time. -Lus.
